While researching for Motivational Quotes to include in my daily email to our Summit Associates, I came across a quote that read, “No one can motivate you.  You must motivate yourself.”   That single quote has been stuck in my head and I repeat it almost without being conscious that I am doing so!

Make-the-best-of-my-lifeBecause of recent changes in my personal life, I had to implement certain changes and create a new “normal” for me rather than living in my comfort zone and never pushing myself to step outside of that life which was the only life I knew.   In doing so, I found that I indeed had to motivate myself to get up, get out and get on with my life.  No one was going to do that for me and I needed to make a commitment to myself that I was going to make changes that would hopefully create a better, stronger version of me!

First, I thought about the things in my life that were changeable.  I decided to first work on my personal health.  I began to walk in the evenings and on the weekend.  It didn’t take long for me to begin feeling the positive effects of this daily effort.  Being outside energized me even after a full day at work.  The physicality of being outside of boundaries (my house, my neighborhood, time constraints) made me feel free and in charge of my own self.  These were all immediate benefits I experienced.

In time, I began to notice that I was no longer winded walking upstairs or up hills during my walks. Then came the best physical benefit of all!   I began to Motivationnotice a change in my weight – pounds were beginning to drop off with seemingly no effort.  As a result, my blood pressure decreased as did my glucose readings to the point that I have now stopped requiring meds.  My doctor has mentioned for a long time that if I dropped weight, I would certainly be able to reduce my daily medications.   He was so very right!!!  All it took was for me to get motivated – not motivated necessarily to lose weight, not motivated to step outside of my normal life, but simply to get motivated to become a better me in whatever area I had some control of.

Now I can proudly say that I’m living the Diana Young 2.0 version of the original creation!  The best part of my story is that I took to heart the fact that I needed to motivate myself because no one would ever be able to do it for me. I needed to envision the changes that I wanted to happen and begin to work towards those changes–just me, myself and I. “No one can motivate you.  You must motivate yourself.”

  1. Hello Diane,

First, allow me to introduce myself, Cecily Gunter. However, above all, CONGRATULATIONS on the new 2.0 version of yourself. I truly enjoyed reading your inspirational and motivational blog for your fellow Summiteers!!

Beyond the beautiful and truthful quote, “No one can motivate you. You must motivate yourself”, you actually DID it! I truly believe if something resonates within our souls just enough while envisioning ourselves through, prosperous results are inevitable. I’m sure your family and colleagues are extremely happy and proud of you.

Thank you for writing this, Diana, and I’m also thankful I happened to stumble upon it as I just started following your company, Summit Group, on LinkedIn. I look forward reading more blogs here as they’re all so uplifting, motivational, and inspiring.

    Sincerely,

    Cecily
